Football fans were in a frenzy as Port Power AFL stars toured the town on Tuesday with a message of good health.
Daniel Motlop was the leading goal kicker in the convincing win over Essendon on Sunday with seven goals, resulting in him being called up to the AFL Hall of Fame tribute match.
Young Power fans were excited to have the chance to speak to him and get an autograph at the Senate Road sports complex where a nine-a-side football competition was played.
His brother Marlon and Danyle Pearce, were also bombarded by young fans wanting to take home an autograph, even if they were not all Power supporters.
The trio went to John Pirie Secondary School and met the Aboriginal sports academy students, a partnership that they hope will continue.
“It is good to get out to the country to relax and talk to the locals,” Daniel Motlop said.
“We have been to the schools to talk about good health. We tell them to eat the right foods.”
During his career, Motlop has had setbacks with injuries and gave advice to young sports people in that situation.
“Do rehabilitation and get back on your bike,” he said. “There will always be setbacks, but try hard, it will pay off.”
He is proof of that theory and is in career-best form.
Motlop put the weekend’s goal haul down to a lot of work in the midfield and said, “I just finished off with the goals”.
