Club pride is at stake against South

11/07/2008 10:58:00 AM
The end of the season can’t come quick enough for the Solomontown Football Club as they continue to struggle to compete with any of the teams in the league. They are yet to register any points and are unable to get within striking distance of their opposition.

Every time they show glimpses of form, it is only for short periods and the rest of the time they are dominated by their opponents and end up being defeated by significant margins.

The club understands the predicament they are in and are endeavoring to work their way out of it. The start of this resurgence needs to begin at Port Augusta on Saturday when they front up to the strong South Augusta Bulldogs.

The last time these two teams met in round 6 Solomontown burst out of the gates and kicked 7 goals to 1 in a fantastic opening term.

From that point it went all down hill and they ended up losing by 55 points.

Since then South have won two of their four games and have shown they also are not up to the standard of the top two sides.

Solomontown were weakened last week by the late withdrawal of ruckman Allan Margatich and backman Lucas Tancock.

Both players should return this week to add some experience to the lineup along with Captain Jarrad Davies who should also be close to returning from injury.

The Cats desperately need their senior players to lead by example and start putting their body over the ball and show the younger players the way. Sollies youngsters are on a steep learning curve and whatever they can take out of the season will be beneficial in their future careers.

The Cats have been through low periods like this before and have worked their way out to continue to be a very successful club.

So long as everyone involved works hard there will again be good times, plenty of wins and success. The Cats are too proud a club to allow this to continue and will not crawl in a corner and hide.

It is difficult to see Solomontown winning this week but their supporters can take some confidence from the fact that Coach David Bickley will be doing his best to ensure they are competitive and give themselves the best chance of victory.
