SATURDAY’S CUP DAY at Bailey Reserve

Winona Avenue Clarence Gardens

Under 19’s – Demons v Modbury Jets – 10.30 am.

Reserve – Cumberland v Modbury Jets – 12 noon.

League – Cumberland v Modbury Jets – 2.30pm.

Inform local State League Under 19’s Northern Demons now ranking 3rd on the table will be on the road alone this Saturday afternoon when they take on top Premier League team the Modbury Jets in Federation Cup knockout soccer.

The young Reds combination will play its second cup game in a month and will open cup afternoon proceedings at Bailey Reserve the home of Cumberland United who the Reds defeated on penalties at home at Byrne Park several weeks ago.

The Demons coached by astute soccer lover Andrew Orfanos will be out to have a go and enjoy the day – playing good football against the tough Modbury team and to perform well will be on the main agenda for the travelling Port Pirie team.

The Northern Demons who are enjoying a good steady season already will again be boosted on Saturday by the selection of young league players in Roy Mezzino and Daniel Cox and fringe

player Chris Annese.

In its last cup tie the Demons defeated the Bailey Reserve Under 19’s outfit to stop the home club from having all three teams participating, while the Modbury Jets defeated West Adelaide 5-1 a team the Demons lost 3-0 a fortnight ago.

And at Byrne Park it was it was sparkling encounter that the Demons won after encountering extra time and win the penalty shootout – that day saw Connie Kouimtzis open the scoring and then score from the spot sending the game into penalties before winning 7-6.

Nonetheless the Reds did defeat the then Premier League leaders and on Saturday are up against the Super League leaders.

With this game being away from home and pitted against the strong Jets its seems obviously that coach Orfanos will have the Reds pretty well prepared – he wants to see the Demons make more use of their possession and also take its chances much better than they have in recent weeks.

The Demons will be looking at a total team effort against Modbury at Bailey Reserve, but key Reds’ players in Roy Mezzino at sweeper, Daniel Cox and Cameron Slessor forward of centre as well as in touch forward Connie Kouimtzis and midfielder Angelo Karoussis all need to put in big games.

Demons goalkeeper Samuel Warren saved several hot shots last week against NAB in the Reds 1-0 win at Byrne Park.

Thers’s no doubt this cup tie will be hard for the Demons, however so was its last one when it upset the Cumberland Foxes in one of the most entertaining games seen.

A win over Modbury will send the Demons into the quarter finals.
