A1 Match of the Round:

St Marks Celtic v Chequers

6.30pm • Friday May 9

John Pirie Stadium

Tomorrow night will be the first of the Friday night

feature games for the 2008 netball season at the John Pirie Stadium.

A junior girls match will start proceedings at 5pm with Sollies and Chequers drawn to play in the round two clash of 14 and Under division two. The girls involved in this game are sure to be very excited to be playing the curtain-raiser to the A1 games.

Parents and club supporters are urged to take a seat in the grand stand and enjoy the match.

The A1 match of the round will follow at 6.30 between last season’s finalist St Marks Celtic and Chequers with both teams coming off a win in round one; St Marks Celtic won against Central Green 61-44 and Chequers beat Sollies 49-39.

Unfortunately for Chequers this week, Lisa Atwell (WD) will be unavailable due to work commitments.

The match-ups will be quite interesting and should produce some exciting battles with accurate goalies for SMC Rachel Tubb and Rebecca Munn up against Chequers dynamic defence line, Teresa Balmer and first year player in the A1 Amanda Burt.

Whichever pair can come out on top could decide the outcome of this game.

It will be a good competitive tussle in the centre court area with opposing players Katie Pole (WD) against Nadinne Knibbs (WA), Kayla Hayes (Centre) against Phillipa Woolford (Centre). It is not known yet who Martine Amato (WA) will play against.

Symone Sawyer put in a sterling effort in her first game for her new club last week against Centrals Green and she will be keen to follow it up this week with another good showing.

Sawyer will team up with class defender Liz Brown to take on the Chequers goalies Sam Burt and Sonia Manfield. Accuracy in the goals will be a major factor for Chequers to match it with SMC.
